CONCLUSION

This single-center study provides the first real-world data for radiation exposure for cardiac sonographers. While low, sonographers are exposed to work place radiation from patient emitted radiation, as well as potentially from nonpatient emitted sources in the interventional laboratories. The finding that radiation exposure from ring dosimeters exceeded the body exposure supports the conclusion that much of this exposure is due to patient emitted sources encountered during scanning of patients following a nMPI study.
