Carotid Doppler measurements in addition to IMT and plaque evaluation are independently associated with future CVEs in asymptomatic patients at risk for CAD.

Discussion
Major findings
To our knowledge, this is the first prospective study to investigate the relationship between carotid artery
blood velocities (including EDV and PSV) and stroke and IHD. The results indicate that EDV and PSV were
significant predictors of stroke and IHD, independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors and IMT in
the studied population, who were at low risk for atherosclerosis.
Carotid flow velocities should be measured when evaluating the risk of stroke9 and IHD.
