The term “diastology” is currently used to refer to the science and art of characterizing left ventricular relaxation and filling dynamics and their integration into clinical practice. At the bedside, diastolic dysfunction is difficult to diagnose and to differentiate from systolic dysfunction on the basis of medical history, physical examination, electrocardiography and chest radiography.
