The two-dimensional strain derived from speckle tracking allows the evaluation of carotid artery mechanics with good reproducibility of the measurements. Furthermore, being a method implemented on a common echocardiographic system, it could permit the routine assessment of arterial mechanics. Probably the assessment of arterial involvement allows a better risk stratification of patients compared with the assessment of the cardiovascular risk score alone.
